While we prioritise the collaboration with esteemed South African musical luminaries to showcase the exceptional talent inherent within our borders, we equally value the enriching exposure to diverse international musical expertise.

In a recent milestone, we had the distinct privilege of hosting the revered trumpet virtuoso, Professor Dan Newell, renowned for his pivotal roles with prestigious orchestras such as the Royal Opera House, London Symphony Orchestra, and London Philharmonic Orchestra. Dan’s illustrious career, encompassing over 200 Hollywood film, television, and video soundtracks, as well as collaborations with revered international icons, solidifies his status as an eminent figure in the realm of music. His dedicated mentorship during his residency at MSA left an indelible impact on our learners and tutors, inspiring growth and artistic development. We eagerly anticipate Dan’s return to South Africa in August/September 2024, as we continue to benefit from his invaluable guidance and expertise.

The recent partnership with the Orchestre National de Jazz (ONJ) saw three esteemed French musicians engaging in a transformative 10-day workshop in Cape Town. This immersive experience culminated in a captivating showcase at our C-Flat Youth Jazz Festival on March 21, coinciding with Human Rights Day. The collaborative efforts of ONJ and MSA, motivated by a shared commitment to cultural action and the democratisation of music and culture, have fostered an environment that nurtures creativity and musical innovation, leaving a lasting impression on all involved. The ONJ’s admiration for our organisation and expression of interest in returning in 2025 signify the enduring impact of these cross-cultural exchanges.

Furthermore, in 2025, our organisation anticipates hosting the internationally acclaimed German conductor, Wolfgang Diefenbach, known for his role as the artistic director of Landesjugendjazzorchester Hessen. Wolfgang’s visit promises to inspire and challenge our learners, propelling them to new heights in their musical pursuit and artistic expression.

At MSA, we steadfastly uphold our mission of providing a diverse and enriching musical education to our learners. Through collaborations with esteemed local and global musical luminaries, we aim to broaden horizons, introduce diverse styles and techniques, and cultivate a profound love for music in all our students. The enriching partnerships and workshops serve as a testament to our enduring commitment to excellence and the transformative power of collaborative endeavors on our learners’ musical evolution and growth.
